Spotlight is on Gopi's 'Lanka'
By Paresh C. Palicha, Indo-Asian News Service
Kochi, March 7 (IANS) It was a dull fortnight especially after the euphoria of the state awards died down. The films that released during this period did not last in theatres even for a week. So the same list continues with a few minor changes.

The top five Malayalam films are:
1. "Lanka" - Made by young director A.K Sajan, the film stars Suresh Gopi who has tried to do something different and trade circles are gung-ho about it.
2. "Lion" - Actor Dileep and director Joshy's team seems to have worked out well. This is their second success in a row. The first one was "Runway".
3. "Tanmatra" - Director Blessy has received bouquets and brickbats for depicting Alzheimer's disease in the film. He tackled both with equanimity.
4. "Achanurangatha Veedu" -
5. "Parayam" - The film, starring Jishnu, Madhu Warrier and Bhavana, has been waiting to hit the screen for quite some time. This is the last film from the director duo Anil-Babu team. They went their separate ways after completing the film.
'Mayajalakathil' rules the chart
By Paresh C. Palicha, Indo-Asian News Service
Kochi, March 7 (IANS) A song from "Out Of Syllabus", a film that had a very short life in theatres, has made it to the top of the charts.
The top five Malayalam songs are:
1. "Mayajalakathil" - Film: "Out Of Syllabus"; Music: Bennet Veetrang; Lyrics: Rafique Ahamed; Singer: Vineeth Sreenivasan. The film may have bombed at the box-office but the audience will remember it for the song.
2. "Sundari Onnu" - Film: "Lion"; Music: Deepak Dev; Lyrics: Kaithapram; Singers: Udit Narayan and Shweta. Music director Deepak Dev and lyricist Kaithapram have become a hit team in recent times. The hit number "Sundari Onnu" is another feather in their cap.
3. "Ozhukukayay" - Film: "Achanurangatha Veedu"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Vayalar Sharath Chandra Varma; Singers: Reju Joseph and Sujatha. This is a sentimental song with a classical bent, which gives an un-Alex Paul feel.
4. "Chirimanimulla" - Film: "Lion"; Music: Deepak Dev; Lyrics: Kaithapram; Singers: Afsal and Jyotsna. The young singers lend special zest to this song.
5. "Mele Vellithinkal" - Film: "Tanmantra"; Music: Mohan Sithara; Lyrics: Kaithapram; Singers: Karthik and Meenu. This song refuses to go out of the list and the film still remains a topic of discussion.
