Why Priyanka went barefoot to Vaishno Devi
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, June 15 (IANS) Bollywood favourite Priyanka Chopra went to the Vaishno Devi temple barefoot to pray for her ailing father and also because she had a lot to be grateful for.
"It was an awesome experience. I felt so much at peace just walking up that hill. I feel a load off my shoulder now," Priyanka told IANS about her three-day trip to Vaishno Devi with her parents.
"What was it for? Oh, it was a sense of accumulated gratitude that took me to Vaishno Devi," said Priyanka from Malaysia where she has rejoined the unit of "Don" after a three-day break.
"I guess the visit to Vaishno Devi was long due. And I wanted it to happen before my father's next surgery. My father's illness was a reason for the pilgrimage. So was the release of 'Krrish'.
"So many things, good and bad, have been happening lately. Fortunately there has been no end to things to be grateful for. I guess I had a lot to speak to god about. So I just flew off to Jammu with my parents."
At Vaishno Devi, Priyanka went barefoot up the hill while her parents were taken by a chopper.
"It was tough. But why do we need to talk about it? As a daughter and as an individual I have a certain relationship with god. And I value that relationship above everything else."
Did she fly down from Malaysia only for the trip to Vaishno Devi?
"Of course! The minute I could get Farhan Akhtar to let me go, I flew back to Mumbai. I had been delaying the pilgrimage for a while now. My schedule just didn't allow me to take that crucial break. Now I am back to work on 'Don'."
Kareena Kapoor joins the unit of "Don", a remake of the 1970s hit and starring Shah Rukh Khan, in Malaysia from Thursday.
"That should be good fun. Kareena and I go back to 'Aitraaz'. We had a ball over that film," said Priyanka.
She'll be unable to go to International Indian Film Academy ceremony taking place in Dubai.
"We are shooting in Malaysia non-stop until June 18. I have always given my work top priority over anything else. I have never allowed any event, no matter how important, to come in the way of my work."
Raid on Priyanka Chopra's ex-secretary's house fails
Indo-Asian News Service
Bhopal, June 4 (IANS) A team of Mumbai Police that came to raid the house of actress Priyanka Chopra's former secretary Prakash Jaju in Madhya Pradesh returned "empty handed" after finding the house locked, police sources said Sunday.
"The house was found locked and the team returned empty handed," additional superintendent of police of Indore R.D. Khare said.
The Mumbai police Saturday went to Jaju's house, in the cantonment town of Mhow (Military Headquarters Of War) - about 40 km from Indore.
Priyanka's father Ashok Chopra had lodged a complaint with a police station in Mumbai alleging that Jaju was threatening him and her daughter.
Jaju had also lodged a counter complaint with the Mhow police station, saying that underworld don Chhota Shakeel had threatened him that he would kill him if he demanded the money the actress owed him, the police said.
Earlier, Ashok Chopra had also phoned Jaju warning him against asking money from her daughter, said superintendent of police Adarsh Katiyar.
The actress' former secretary claimed that Priyanka owed him Rs.13.7 million.
"A month after winning the 'Miss World' title, Priyanka signed an agreement, which entailed a payment of 10 percent of the amount for every movie, stage show and advertisement," Jaju said.
He added that it was he who got the actress roles in movies like "Hero", "Andaaz", "Kismat", "Asambhav", "Black Mail" and "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi".
Jaju had allegedly filed a suit against Priyanka for the recovery of his money in a Mumbai court in 2004.
I'm not overshadowed in 'Krrish' and 'Don': Priyanka
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, May 27 (IANS) Priyanka Chopra, who is shooting for Farhan Akhtar's "Don" in Malaysia, is eagerly waiting for "Krrish" and says she is not overshadowed by her male co-stars - Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in any of the films.
She would be seen doing stunts in "Don", a remake of 1970s classic starring Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman.
"We are having a ball in Malaysia. We have shot like crazy. But what we have shot is really quite amazing. I have lots of action scenes to do... I'm looking forward to 'Don'," Priyanka told IANS.
"But before that there's 'Krrish' in June. And I'm really excited about it. Duggu (Hrithik Roshan) is awesome in the film. And if I may say so, I make quite an attractive pair with him. You mark my words, 'Krrish' is going to rock."
But aren't both "Don" and "Krrish" a pretext for major hero-giri?
"Ah! You wait and watch what I've done in them. In both, 'Don' and 'Krrish', I'm very much part of the action."
Outwardly she is totally focused on her work but Priyanka is a troubled soul.
Apparently, her ex-business manager Prakash Jaju has dragged her into a financial dispute. He has allegedly asked Priyanka and her father to pay Rs.10 million which he claimed was due from them.
Jaju had entered into a contract with her to promote her in Hindi films and as per the agreement, he was to get certain percentage from her earnings, which he says the actress has refused to give him.
Though Priyanka is loath to discuss the problem it's weighing on her mind.
"I really don't want to comment on any of this. Right now my work is my main concern.
"But my family's welfare is also absolutely essential. My father is not well. He is going into another surgery in July. It is really sad that he is being subjected to such anguish."
Training for 'Don' really strenuous: Priyanka
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, April 18 (IANS) Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is in a lot of pain these days thanks to her rigorous martial art training for a role in Farhan Akhtar's "Don".
"I have started taking martial arts lessons for Roma's role. For someone who never works out, never goes to the gym, these past few days have been killing," said Priyanka, who will do her own stunts in the upcoming film.
A remake of the 1970s hit, "Don" has Priyanka and Shah Rukh Khan in the main lead. In the original "Don", Zeenat Aman played the avenging angel Roma.
"I am a big, big fan of Zeenat. Her Roma in 'Don' was really kick-ass. But mine will be different, radically different," Priyanka told IANS.
One of the vital ways in which Priyanka's Roma in "Don" departs from Zeenat's interpretation of the character is the on-screen physical violence.
"Yes, I am doing a lot of stunts and I am doing them on my own. In fact, I have started rigorous coaching in martial arts with a guy called Kanisk...And boy, it is tough!"
The toughening up has taken its toll on her.
"When the training started, I had aches and pains all over. Believe it or not, I never go to the gym. I never work out. So this training is really strenuous. I hope I survive."
And if you find Priyanka's claim that she never works out hard to believe, here are some more believe-it-or-not claims from our svelte heroines.
Urmila Matondkar, who's a voracious foodie, claims she never works out. And Aishwarya Rai says she knew nothing about physical training until she got into super-slim shape for
"Dhoom-2".
