'Mahanandi' may overtake 'Jai Chiranjeeva'
By B. Anuradha, Indo-Asian News Service

Hyderabad, Jan 7 (IANS) The huge opening of "Jai Chiranjeeva", thanks to Chiranjeevi's mass appeal, makes it the top Telugu film of the fortnight. But "Mahanandi" and "Vennela" may steal a march over it.

The top five films are:

1. "Jai Chiranjeeva": The much-hyped comedy has not really matched the expectations of the numero uno star Chiranjeevi.

2. "Mahanandi": Young actor Sumanth bounces back with this film and audiences have accepted him in his maiden action role.

3. "Vennela": Handsome Raja delivers a hit to launch another director, Deva. The American backdrop enhances the film's appeal.

4. "Bharatchandra": This dubbed version of the Malayalam hit "Police Commissioner 2", with Suresh Gopi roaring again as an upright police officer, is doing well as of now.

5. "Gautam SSC": This film joins the ranks not for its collections but for its thought-provoking message for the youth. Director Arunprasad of "Tamudu" fame returns with an entertainer.

'Lakshmi' is album of the fortnight
By B. Anuradha, Indo-Asian News Service

Hyderabad, Jan 7 (IANS) Composer Ramana Gogula bounces back with "Lakshmi", undoubtedly the album of the fortnight.

The top five Telugu albums are:

1. "Lakshmi": "Tara taluku tara" and "Hey satyabamma" are outstanding songs. The music suits the film, a family drama laced with action.

2. "Chukkalo Chandrudu": Composer Chakri is back in his elements in this peppy album. "Dholna dholna" and "Edalo eppudo" sound like chartbusters.

3. "Style": Director Lawrence surprised many by signing Mani Sharma for his dance-based film, but the composer has proved all critics wrong with this notable album. "Style sytle" and "Merupisagara" are catchy.

4. "Kokkila": Composer Madhukar does a decent job and delivers two good numbers - "Kokkila kokkila" and "Anaganaga". The tunes cannot be compared with Ilayaraja's "Kokkila" made 15 years ago. But still Madhu shows hope.

5. "Mahanandi": The film's big success has enhanced the sale of audio and won recognition for Kamalakar's work. "Champakamala" and "Indhradanasu" have created ripples.
