If Nag, as his fans know him, penned hymns addressed to Lord Venkateswara in the former, he ends up in jail for building a Ram temple at Bhadrachalam in "Sri Ramadasu".
He said he hasn't done any homework for the film and prefers to visit the sets often and rely on spontaneity.
He is all praise for veteran director Raghavendra Rao and scriptwriter J.K. Bharavi for coming up with an interesting screenplay.
"The duo made a winner out of 'Annamayya' and they are again working to make an entertainer of this real-life story," said Nagarjuna.
"When I heard the story, I felt that it would be a landmark film so I agreed to do a small role in order to be associated with it," said Nagarjuna's father A. Nageswara Rao, who plays Kabir Das in this much-awaited release.
Sneha plays the dutiful wife of the devotee.
"I am fortunate to be associated with this noteworthy project and it has been great working with Nagarjuna and the team," she said.
Bharavi, who scripted the classic "Annamayya", stressed that he had done extensive research for the film. And producer Krishnam Raju said he decided to make the film as soon as he heard the story.
"The Nag-Raghavedra-Bharavi trio gave us 'Annamayya' and I hope we are on the verge of creating history again," said Raju. The film is slated for Feb 14 release.
