Though the man who has ruled the southern film industry for over two decades has been conferred many awards, the Padma Bhushan is a special honour for him.
"I am glad that the central government has recognised my services to the industry and conferred this prestigious award on me," he said.
"I dedicate this award to my fans," said Chiranjeevi, 51, whose fan following can only be compared with that of the late thespian-turned-politician N.T. Rama Rao.
Chiranjeevi, who runs a blood bank and is engaged in various social service activities, has stayed away from politics despite persistent demands from several quarters.
Born Aug 22, 1955 at Mogultur village in West Godavari district, Chiranjeevi entered the film industry with "Punaadi Raallu" in 1978 after completing his diploma in acting in Chennai.
Though he started his career with small roles, his hard work and dedication gave him a permanent place in the industry.
Also known as action king and the angry young man of Telugu cinema, Chiranjeevi has so far acted in 140 films. Last year he completed two decades in films.
Married to Surekha, the daughter of veteran comedian Allu Ramalingaiah, he has two daughters - Susmita and Sirija - and one son Ramcharan Teja.
His younger brother Pavan Kalyan is also a popular actor in Telugu cinema.
