Indo-Asian News Service
Jaipur, Sep 15 (IANS) An elephant trampled a man to death and injured two Belgian tourists seriously when it went out of control at Amber fort on the outskirts of this Rajasthan capital Thursday.
Vinod Bambha, 45, the manager of a travel agency, was escorting tourists Whars Mausini, 74, and Louis Dominique, 49, who had come from Delhi, around the popular tourist site when the incident occurred.
According to station house officer (SHO) Rajendra Singh, both the tourists and their escort were trying to click a group photograph with an elephant in the background.
The glint from the camera infuriated the animal, which attacked the trio from the back. It trampled Bambha under its feet and flung away the tourists with its trunk.
All three people were rushed to the SMS Hospital, but Bambha was declared dead by doctors. The condition of the tourists is reported to be serious.
The Amber Fort is a famous tourist place. The tourists, especially the foreigners, prefer riding elephants to go up to the fort that is perched high on a barren ridge. Over 117 elephants ferry the tourists in the fort.
The fort, whose construction was begun in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, is one of the finest examples of Rajput architecture. It took a century and a half to build the fort.
