Modi appeals to industry to develop tourism at Lothal
Indo-Asian News Service
Ahmedabad, Sep 27 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday called upon the state's industry to develop tourism infrastructure at Lothal, the site of the Indus valley civilisation.
Addressing a meet in the city to commemorate World Tourism Day, Modi stressed the need for repackaging tourism in the state as well as in the country.
"Modern technology puts the whole world before you. You need to inspire people to come to visit the places.
"In spite of having a potential to attract the world, we have not been able to do so. For that, we must stop propagating the negative elements," said Modi in a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd.
He added that the existing infrastructure for religious tourism should be modified and a brand image of Gujarat created to draw foreign tourists.
The state attracts more than 15 million domestic tourists every year and ranks seventh among most visited states. Approximately 38,000 foreign tourists visited Gujarat last year.
